Romp On

Building a meaningful performance growth tracking system

Context

As a relatively new creative agency , romp wanted to do things differently. One of it was by rethinking the way romp evaluate its employees’ performance. 

The goal was to develop a digital platform that can facilitate leaders and employees with insights on how to improve their performance in a fair and meaningful way. Instead of conducting performance appraisal only once a year, romp wanted to give its employees a chance to be able to gain feedback regularly.

To undertake this task, the management of romp. decided to appoint a four employee task force to lead the whole process of rethinking and building this new system using the principles of design thinkingand I was one of them.

The Output

The final output became a web-based, mobile optimized dashboard that allows peers across different levels and departments to give each other objective feedback that can be tracked by their respective leaders, thereby encouraging supervisors to engage in regular discussions with their team members. 

As part of the task force, I was involved in the end to end process of romp.on’s development: along with the other task force, a UI/UX consultant and third party tech developer – I co-conducted the process from internal research, ideation workshop, synthesis, prototyping, testing to socializing the system. As of January 2021, romp.on is currently in its company-wide beta testing stage.

The Process

The project began in mid March 2020, right at the start of the pandemic. This shifted the entire process from offline to online. Despite the challenges, we were able to still be able to engage majority of the romp employees to co-design the performance system through an online workshop, utilizing tools such as Miro.

At a personal level, this allowed me to engage in a collaborative process of developing a product together with its end users in mind as well as honing my capabilities in working with emerging digital tools.
