370J Connect

A UX Project focusing on identifying solutions to help foster collaboration across 370 Jay St

Context

Throughout the course of our UX class, I was given the chance to work on a project that allowed us to undergo the double diamond design process model. The task were to design a solution for a group of people, and my group focuses on improving collaboration amongst stakeholders at 370 Jay St.

370 Jay St is a building with a rich history and ripe for opportunities. As a relatively new campus, 370 Jay houses various programs across different NYU schools. The goal of 370 Jay is to become a ‘hub’ for digital media, arts and technology programs to come together and collaborate with one another. Yet currently there seems to be little in place to help bring this goal to life. As a design team, we began our discovery process with the following question: how might we raise awareness and promote collaboration across different programs?

The Process

The project was divided into two parts. During project one, much of the focus revolves around user research. Working together with my group, we formulated a research plan, conducted user interviews and synthesizes our findings into how might we questions.

We then took these questions into project two, where the focus is to develop a prototype and run a usability test of our proposed solution.

To sum, there were three key discoveries:

Discovery One
Collaboration at 370 Jay St is a latent opportunity due to structural and institutional barriers
Discovery Two
Collaboration for student meant building communities, motivated by academic and social needs
Discovery Three
To address these challenges and opportunities, we need to on designing digital based student engagement and community building at 370 Jay St

The Output

By the end of the project, we created a prototype of a platform that we named 370J Connect. A mix between social media meets matchmaking app and events calendar, the 370J Connect allows students to create their own profile, connect with like minded peers and find events that they could attend to gain network.

Throughout the course of working on 370J Connect, my role focuses on project management, facilitating the ideation workshop and synthesizing the research findings to help better inform design decisions.
